Camouflage

I think that when the US Military gets camouflage this good, then that'll be the end of any opposition. From anyone. Anywhere.

This is just amazing/creepy.

Imagine walking past a wall or a bush that is actually hiding a person wearing this type of camouflage. I think I'll start developing my sense of smell!

More back in the day ...

I was perusing the dusty archives on my backup disk, and came across these jewels from a decade ago:

At the gateway to the park. Some people just can't be trusted to not climb on things.

A shot using the camera timer. Notice the poor attempt to mock a fellow biker.

After a strenuous hike from the Basin down to the "Window." We are mere inches from plunging a thousand feet to the desert floor.

Back in the days before 9/11/01, when you could take a boat across the Rio Grande, and then walk or ride a burro into Boquillas. The town seems to have all but disappeared these days. :-(

Sitting on the porch in Boquillas, basking in the relaxed feeling.

Tom's revenge for Lee's earlier mocking. Photo taken at the Pecos bridge overlook.

In Your Eyes

Amy just pointed me to this video this morning. It's Peter Gabriel performing "In Your Eyes" in concert.

This song has been one of my favorites for many years.

It also figures prominently in the movie "Say Anything," also a favorite of mine for over two decades.

Enjoy:

Construction sky

Amy and I went to Ron and Linda's the other day.

On the way into town, the sun was setting just as we passed loop 1604.

I took several pictures, this was the only one that came out.

It wasn't until I looked at it again today that I noticed that there's either a ufo, or comet Holmes in the upper left...

The Band Meme

I usually just read these meme's on other folks' blogs, but rarely participate. This one, however, made both Amy and me laugh.

From "Sharp as a Marble:"

The Band Meme

Here’s how it goes. You are about to have your own band’s CD cover. Follow these directions to the letter. It’s fun and requires no thought at all. Go to……
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.
2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.
3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result in your own journal because it’s more amusing that way.

Here's mine:

Retirement ride

No, not me, not yet at least. My good friend Tom celebrated his entry into the leisure class today.

Lee and I took him on a nice circuitous ride to Wimberley for breakfast.

It was a bit brisk when I departed the house at 0820. The sun had risen.

The thermometer was not following the sun’s example.

Three miles later it was brisker still.

Lee and I met Tom at his house at 0900. Roadtrip the cat wouldn’t let Lee out his sight.

We took the back roads from Tom’s house, and hadn’t been rolling for more than ten minutes before this herd of deer tried to kill me.

Ahhh, the back roads of the Hill Country, nothing better.

Our leisurely ride to Wimberley turned out to be a little too leisurely to keep our breakfast plans. We missed breakfast by minutes, but lunch turned out to be a fine alternative… Veggie burger ala Cypress Creek CafĂ©.

We headed out to Luckenbach after lunch, and ran into a fellow ADV-er on his stealth GS.

Tom and Lee are both showing their age—they were looking longingly at this Gold Wing.

Anyway, it is nice to see someone now have all the time they want for riding.

The best Christmas Present ever!

Having these two home (the two on the left).

I love the progression of the colors over a fifteen minute span...

I have a very generous family...

And the person who drew my name for a Christmas present gave me a Nintendo Wii....

I was very happy, until I read this story:

Nintendo's Wii a surprise hit with seniors (link)

Is there a deeper meaning to this gift?

:-D

Heroism is alive and well

In the worst of circumstances, some people put their lives on the line to defend others.

To do it after three days of fasting, and pitting a handgun against a murderer with long guns and body armor, is truly incredible.

This woman is an American hero for her actions that day.

Hmmmmmmm
