Europe vs. the USA

I've heard that the essential difference between Europeans and Americans is that Americans think a hundred years is a long time, and Europeans think a hundred miles is a long distance.

I can't think of an easy way to demonstrate the time aspect, but this graphic of Europe superimposed over a map of the US sure illustrates the distance part of it.

Hmmmm

Looks like you left out about 2/3rds of Europe there. Americans tend to think that the US is significantly larger in relation to Europe than it factually is. Europe is roughly 1 million sq miles larger than the contiguous US.
